One very special family, which has remained close to Freedom Alliance, was soon preparing to move to Idaho and away from our existing sphere of service in Colorado Springs. Although we will keep in touch with them no matter where they go, we wanted schedule a going-away event in their honor.

We wanted also to invite a couple of other military families, and we thought a bowling and pizza night was a fun prospect for kids and adults alike.

Marcus, who is another service member we check up on, suggested the bowling and we happily entertained him and his family. He enjoyed talking to the other vets, and he remarked on how his usually shy daughter had come out of her shell during the evening.

Scott, once a Green Beret, is medically retired after 16 years of service. Now a gunsmith, Scott attended a Freedom Alliance coyote hunt back in the spring, and we had the privilege of meeting his wife and three-year-old son for the bowling event.

Serendipitously, we happened to run into a Freedom Alliance supporter who was celebrating his son’s birthday. Gary Guagenti is sponsoring a hunt this fall at Bear Basin, his ranch in Westcliffe, Colorado.

It was a delightful evening at Bass Pro Shops Uncle Buck’s FishBowl. We said farewell to one beloved family and predicted many more future bowling nights with the others.

Bowling Night 2

UPDATE: Not long after this first event, Freedom Alliance hosted another outing at this venue.

A local military family, Patrick and Jen and their daughter Kia don’t get out for much more than doctor appointments at the VA hospital. Neither of Patrick nor Jen had bowled in over 10 years, but they very much enjoyed the themselves. We also hosted the children of another veteran, 10 and 12 years old. Their parents couldn’t make it this time but we promised to get the whole family together very soon.
