Freedom Alliance Posts 2012 Form 990
October, 2013

Friends and Supporters of Freedom Alliance:

Freedom Alliance recently completed our annual Independent Audit and filed our 2012 Form 990 (federal tax filing) with the IRS.  Completing a tax return is a time consuming process for us, just as it is for every individual or small business owner.

In 2012, Freedom Alliance achieved phenomenal success.  Our expenditures were $7.2 million, with those expenses divided (as the IRS requires) in the following way in our Form 990:

          Programs: 86%
          Fundraising: 9%
          Administration: 5%

Freedom Alliance’s efforts change lives and save lives and help make military families stronger. Last year alone, we assisted thousands of service members through various projects and programs including Heroes Vacations that strengthen military marriages; Outdoor Adventures which provide recreational therapy for the wounded; Troop Appreciation Events; emergency aide for families of hospitalized troops; care packages for deployed service members; and college scholarships for the children of military heroes.

There are several places to find Freedom Alliance’s Form 990 on the Internet. Because transparency is important to us, you can find our 990 here on our website, where we have posted it going back three years.  Another site where you can find it is Guidestar, which posts our 990, and those of other organizations, as they are filed with the IRS.

Although we have a strong record in supporting our troops, unfortunately, not everybody supports our objective. Consequently, some organizations attempt to put our mission in a bad light by using a methodology that conflicts with IRS requirements and shows skewed results. For example, one organization, Charity Navigator, has taken information from our 2011 Form 990, manipulated it, and reported a distorted summary of Freedom Alliance’s federal tax form.  What they have done is misleading and unethical and it violates their own stated principles. As always, we stand by the accuracy of the information in our 990 which we submit to the IRS.

Your generosity makes our work possible, and I thank you for your continued support of Freedom Alliance. We could not accomplish such great things without you. God Bless you.2012 Financial Graph - with Text
