An Easter celebration for the families of recovering service members from the naval hospital at Balboa Park brought out a scattering of kiddies as well as the kids at heart.
Freedom Alliance hosted the event at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Liberty Center, where our guests bowled and played arcade games for free. The Easter Bunny showed up for photographs, too, and we set up inflatable bounce houses for the children outside. The meal was catered by Chick-fil-A, and MarineParents sent volunteers with loads of baked goods for dessert.
After a ton of food and fun, the children grabbed their Easter baskets, which Freedom Alliance had stuffed with special treats, and ran outside for the egg hunt.
It was an intimate and friendly gathering for soldiers with combat- and non-combat-related injuries to spend valuable time with their families and each other in comfort.
From the delicious meal to all the sundry attractions, the real treasure this day was the people who came.
