Freedom Alliance scholars inspire with their desire to honor the sacrifices of their parents, and our Student Outreach Project impacts them above and beyond the financial assistance of their scholarship.

Many of them struggle with feelings of isolation or loneliness because they don’t typically have friends who’ve lost a parent or had a parent severely disabled in combat. It is a unique situation and so we create for them communities of peer support through Scholars Retreats, Student Ambassadors, published essays, media appearances, events, and personal outreach.

We show them that they are valued and loved. Students receive birthday cards and care packages during their exams, we provide many with letters of recommendation for graduate school, employment, or other special programs.

Our ambassadors travel the country to share their personal stories and explain how their families were impacted by the war. Several of our students have earned the prestigious Gold Star Family Fellowship, which allows them to work with Members of Congress. The Freedom Alliance scholarship offers tremendous financial assistance for college, but it is often just the first step of a wonderful and lasting friendship with a hero’s family.
