“President Biden has scarred the hearts of America’s veterans with his decision to leave our citizens to fend for themselves.” – Tom Kilgannon, President, Freedom Alliance

DULLES, Va. – August 24, 2021 – Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance, an organization supporting wounded combat veterans and military families, issued the following statement:

“Today the President agreed to the Taliban’s demand that the United States withdraw from Afghanistan by August 31. With this decision, President Biden disregards the need for a full accounting of our citizens and jettisons any Americans remaining in Afghanistan to the fate of the Taliban or other terrorist groups. Our allies have similarly been abandoned. This decision is shameful and will have dangerous repercussions for many years to come.

“The President’s decision only intensifies the feelings of stress, frustration, despair, and moral injury our veterans are feeling. Our troops are trained to leave no man behind; they have sacrificed to rescue a fellow service member. This decision is contrary to who they are and how they’ve been trained. President Biden has scarred the hearts of America’s veterans with his decision to leave our citizens to fend for themselves.”
