At Freedom Alliance, we often say that behind every wounded service member is a caregiver carrying an unseen weight. This spring, through our Healing Hearts & Horses Caregiver Retreat, we created space for those women to step away, breathe, and be cared for.

Hosted at Healing Hearts & Horses Farm, the retreat brought together spouses and caregivers of America’s wounded heroes for a weekend centered on rest, connection, and renewal.

From the moment guests arrived, every detail was intentional. Nilsa and Pedro welcomed caregivers with warmth, preparing the home, gathering fresh flowers, and creating an environment that immediately felt peaceful and inviting.

The weekend began with a shared dinner and an encouraging message that reminded each woman of her strength, purpose, and deep value. What followed was a beautiful rhythm of activity and rest, horseback riding, time on the water, meaningful conversations, and moments of quiet reflection.

Through equine-assisted experiences, caregivers stepped outside their daily routines and into something restorative. These interactions offered more than just time with horses, they created space for trust, emotional release, and renewed confidence.

There was also joy. Laughter during trail rides. Conversations over meals. Exploring the charm of Madison, Georgia. And a simple but powerful gift: time with women who understand this journey without explanation.

Saturday offered a deeper focus on restoration, with a relaxing spa experience and a meaningful farewell dinner filled with gratitude and connection.

By Sunday morning, as the group returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, something had shifted. These women were leaving not just rested but reminded they are not alone.

That impact is best captured in their own words:

“This retreat was such a powerful reminder that you truly cannot pour from an empty cup… I left feeling grateful, refreshed, and reminded of how important it is for caregivers to be cared for too.”

— Revée Kraszewski

“I felt seen, heard, and supported… It was a rare, cathartic, and restful experience.”

— Michael Thomas

Caregivers give so much of themselves every single day. This retreat is more than a getaway, it’s a chance to heal, to be supported, and to return home renewed.

Because caring for our nation’s heroes also means caring for those who stand beside them.
