This summer, Freedom Alliance brought three veterans together for an unforgettable outdoor adventure in the Flat Tops of Colorado.
After arriving in Grand Junction, Pablo and I met up with veterans Aaron Kim, Anthony Drogos, and Michael Tellez before heading into the mountains with our friends from Adams Lodge Outfitters. Together, we packed into Guthrie Lake Camp for several days of hiking, fishing, and reconnecting in the backcountry.
The weather tested us throughout the trip with rain, hail, and cold temperatures, but the challenges only strengthened the teamwork and camaraderie among the group. Around camp, we shared meals, stories, and plenty of laughs while enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the Colorado wilderness.
One of the most meaningful moments came during our hike to Rainbow Lake, where each of us carried small American flags honoring service members lost in combat. Along the trail, we placed the flags as a reminder that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
While the fishing conditions were challenging early in the week, our final day on the water delivered an incredible experience as the group caught nearly 20 trout together.
More than the scenery or the adventure itself, this trip was about connection. Time spent outdoors gives veterans the opportunity to reconnect with fellow service members, build lasting friendships, and create memories that continue long after returning home.
