Grant of $1.25 Million Funds Scholarships for Children of Military Heroes

We are blessed to work with great partners including our friends at the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund (JMSF) who recently bestowed an amazing gift on Freedom Alliance of $1.25 million! The gift supports scholarships for the children of military heroes.

The Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund is named for Colonel John McHugh who, on May 18, 2010, was killed in Afghanistan. He served 24 years in the Army when his convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber.

McHugh was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and his classmates quickly came together to care for his family of five children and one grandchild. They raised money to send his kids to college and their efforts were so successful they decided to form the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund to help many more military families.

MaryEllen Picciuto, the President of JMSF and a West Point classmate of John McHugh, presented the check during a reception at Freedom Alliance headquarters.

Since September 11, 2001, Freedom Alliance has awarded more than $25 million in scholarships to help the children of fallen or wounded heroes earn a collegeeducation. This year, we are helping 686 students get their education and prepare for a career that will honor their parents’ sacrifice. It is only with your help and the support of great partners like the JMSF that we can dramatically impact the lives of so many students. Thank you!
