On Friday, November 8, 2024, Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank recently honored U.S. Army Sergeant Michael “Dylan” Thomas with a special gift—a new vehicle—as part of their “Driven to Serve” program. Dylan, a veteran from Tennessee, joined the Army in 2004 and served as a Medical Logistics Specialist. He was deployed to Basra, Iraq, where he faced significant dangers, including IEDs and mortar attacks, earning the Combat Action Badge for his bravery.
During his service, Dylan also contributed to the development of the Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), now a standard issue for soldiers. After being honorably discharged in 2012, Dylan worked as a Deputy Sheriff and later volunteered at the Boy’s Ranch in Tennessee. He and his family now serve as House Parents at Chestnut Mountain Ranch in Morgantown, West Virginia, where they mentor boys aged 11 to 16.
However, with only a 2002 Ford Excursion with over 250,000 miles, Dylan’s family struggled with transportation. Receiving the new vehicle from Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank will allow them to participate in outdoor activities as a family, transport equipment for ministry and veterans, and provide more stability in their daily lives.
This vehicle donation is part of the “Driven to Serve” initiative, a partnership between Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank that has helped provide over 75 vehicles to veterans in need since 2018. Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance, expressed, “Dylan’s courageous service deserves our deepest gratitude, and this vehicle is a meaningful way to show our support for him and his family.”
U.S. Bank’s ongoing efforts to support veterans, including their Proud to Serve employee group and veteran-focused initiatives, reflect their commitment to honoring those who have served. For Dylan, this vehicle represents more than just transportation—it’s a vital tool that will help him continue serving others and supporting the next generation of young men and veterans.
