OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — Two Gold Star students were honored with new, payment-free vehicles on Tuesday at The Bluegrass Museum. The event recognized National Military Appreciation Month and Memorial Day.

The presentation was part of the Driven to Serve program, a collaboration between Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank. This initiative provides vehicles to military families and service members in need. Since 2018, U.S. Bank has provided more than 85 vehicles, with over 55 given in partnership with Freedom Alliance.

“If Russell Madden and Chad Trimble were here,” said Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance, “they would make sure their children had safe, reliable transportation as they pursued their education and launched their careers. Because they made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, it’s our honor to support and care for their families in this meaningful way.”

The honored students were Parker Madden, whose father, U.S. Army Specialist Russell E. Madden, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010, and Micaela Trimble, whose father, U.S. Army Private First Class Chad M. Trimble, was killed in Afghanistan in 2008.

Both Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank are dedicated to honoring service members. U.S. Bank supports veterans through Proud to Serve, an employee-led group that connects and welcomes veterans. The bank employs more than 1,700 veterans, including National Guard and Reserve members.
