Christmas is the season of miracles.

But for the military veteran recovering from combat injuries and consequently facing a forced retirement, it can be tough to buy in to the wonder of the holiday. Feelings of enchantment and goodwill are overwhelmed by cynicism and despair.

This is not kind of Christmas our military families deserve. For all they’ve done, for all they’ve sacrificed, is it right that they be left to muddle through a bleak and stressful holiday?

We don’t think so. And many of you don’t think so either.

We want to tell you about our biggest Christmas gift ever.

Presents for Patriots is a program Freedom Alliance began in 2010, providing Christmas relief for 20 families in need. After seven years, we have tremendously increased the number of families impacted … all thanks to you!

Through the selflessness and lavish outpouring of our partners, donors, and sponsors, Freedom Alliance set presents under the trees of 127 families in December 2015. More than 350 children—altogether 523 individuals, including parents—received a message of hope and gratitude this holiday … along with a lot of love.

All across the country, messengers for Freedom Alliance showed up with carloads of presents: on the medical units at Walter Reed in the nation’s capital, Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and the Naval Hospital in San Diego; military bases including Fort Riley, Fort Sill, Fort Knox, Fort Campbell, Fort Lewis, and Fort Carson; as well as to retired combat veterans in 34 states.

This program is making miracles come true for military families. The letters of thanks pour in each January, along with videos and photographs, and we can’t hold back the emotion.

See for yourself:

“This program and our donors have given me my husband back, given my kids their father back … and if that isn’t a Christmas miracle, I don’t know what is!”

—Jasmine, mother of five and wife of Army Staff Sergeant Justin, from Indiana

“This Christmas was one of the greatest things that has happened to me… For the first time I shed tears from joy instead of pain.”

—Willie, a 19-year Army veteran staff sergeant and single father of three, from Kentucky

“We hope that next year we will be able to share this gift with other families in need. We want to give back, and we want all of you to forever know what you did for us will never be forgotten.”

—The family of Army Sergeant First Class Jeffrey from Georgia

“We would not have been able to give our children a Christmas this year, and because of you all they have been the happiest I have seen them in a long time. I cannot say how near and dear to my heart this organization is.”

—Marine Sergeant Aaron from North Carolina
