We are proud to introduce Ja’Niayah Ellis, from Valdosta, Georgia, as the 2026 Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund Student Ambassador. A Social Work major attending Augusta University, she plans to pursue a career as a pediatric medical social worker, supporting children and families facing serious illnesses. Inspired by her own experience growing up with hemophilia, she is passionate about helping others navigate difficult medical journeys with compassion and hope.
In addition to her studies, Ja’Niayah is a student-athlete on the Augusta University Cheer Team. She also serves as a leader in the university’s Gold Star Family Organization and volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House. In her free time, she enjoys baking, drawing, painting, and traveling.
Ja’Niayah is the daughter of Army Staff Sergeant James D. Ellis, who was killed in Iraq on October 2, 2006, when the Humvee in which he was riding was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). SSG Ellis served his country for six years after joining the Army Reserve in 2000. He deployed on his second tour to Iraq in December 2005 and was scheduled to return home just two months after his death.
Only 13 months old when her father was killed, Ja’Niayah has come to know him through the stories, photographs, and letters lovingly preserved by her family and by the memories shared by his battle buddies. Through them, she has learned that her father was an exceptional leader, devoted family man, and someone whose intelligence and humor left an impression on everyone who knew him.
Today, Ja’Niayah proudly carries forward her father’s legacy of service. As the 2026 Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund Student Ambassador, she looks forward to meeting Freedom Alliance supporters and sharing how their generosity has helped shape her future while honoring the sacrifice of America’s military heroes and their families.
Please join us in congratulating Ja’Niayah on being selected as the 2026 Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund Student Ambassador. We are honored to have her represent the Scholarship Fund and look forward to sharing her journey throughout the coming year as she inspires others through her story of resilience, service, and hope.
