The local Post Office in Oxford, Mississippi carries the name of an American hero, 1st Lt. Don Carwile, or “Donnie” as his family referred to him. It’s a wonderful tradition to remember our heroes in this way, but the most important legacy of Don Carwile is his family.
So, we introduce you to Reese Carwile. To us, she is the proud daughter of an American hero. To her family, she’s Donnie’s little girl. This year, as our Ambassador, Reese Reese is one of the thousands of children whose mother or father died while serving in the Armed Forces in the past 20 years. Your support helps Freedom Alliance award college scholarships to these deserving students and honor the sacrifice of their parents. will tell Americans about the father she loved and the man who sacrificed his life for our country.
Don Carwile died in August 2008 in Wardak Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. Carwile died in an insurgent attack that began with an IED, followed by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
Reese and her sister were only five and three years old when their dad died. Today Reese is a senior at the University of Mississippi, where she majors in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She’s enrolled in a pre-physician assistant track, with plans to become a pediatric or orthopedic physician assistant.
Reese is an energetic student and very involved in school organizations related to healthcare. In addition to her classes, she works as a phlebotomist at a medical center, volunteers, and is active in her church.
She has been receiving scholarship assistance from Freedom Alliance since 2021 and is grateful for the help our supporters provide. She says:
“ Thank you to Freedom Alliance for the opportunity to pursue my career passions and walking with me hand in hand through my college experience. People like y’all are truly healing the wounds of war beyond comparison. May God protect and bless y’all. Thank you!”
